A 5.1 system has 5 speakers and 1 subwoofer, giving you basic surround sound—front, sides, and bass. A 7.1 system adds two extra speakers behind you for a more immersive experience. When you see 5.1.2, it means you get the same 5.1 setup but with 2 Dolby Atmos height speakers, so sound also comes from above. A 7.1.2 system includes all the surround speakers of 7.1 plus 2 height speakers, creating a full 3D cinema-like audio experience.
